A Vision Charter Academy Showcase at Bill Heddles Recreation Center featured displays from learners at the Delta and Surface Creek campuses, as well as presentations from graduating seniors. A second VCA Showcase for the North Fork Valley will be held April 21 at the North Fork Campus.
For the VCA Showcase March 31, learners of all ages brought tabletop displays, videos and demonstrations to showcase their passions, interests and learning. Each learner was on hand to answer questions about their projects.
VCA's graduation requirements include seniors attending their VCA Showcase to display work and perform. In addition, they give their senior presentations in which they share information about accomplishments, plans after graduation, and take time to thank family, friends and staff who have assisted them on their educational journey.
Delta graduate Jonathan Smith has been a Vision student all 12 years of his schooling. At Vision, he said he's found a whole team willing to support his educational goals. Next fall, he plans to study graphic design and animation at Colorado Mesa University.
Ashlynn Killip said Vision has provided a lot of freedom and opportunity she wouldn't have had otherwise. Shanaya Perez said she's valued the ability to work at her own pace. Some seniors expressed appreciation to specific staff members who have been instrumental to their success.
Several VCA seniors spoke of classes they've taken at Delta-Montrose Technical College, putting them well on their way to realizing their career goals. Those goals ranged from midwifery to firefighting, and from auto mechanics to physical therapy.
Graduation ceremonies for the Delta VCA Campus will be Thursday, May 26, at 6 p.m. at Delta Performing Arts Center. Surface Creek graduates will be honored Friday, May 27, at 7 p.m. at the Cedaredge Assembly of God.
