Sim "Scotty" Ashlock of Austin died Dec. 25, 2016, in Grand Junction. He was 70.
He was born in Colorado Springs Aug. 30, 1946, to Orin and Cora (Doll) Ashlock on Aug. 30, 1946.
He joined the Army and served in Vietnam from October 1965 -- October 1967. He was a combat decorated veteran, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter Badge and Purple Heart for his service.
On July 2, 2005, he married Rebecca Fields.
He was a machinist and heavy equipment operator. He was a friend of Bill W., a mason and a member of the Vietnam Vets motorcycle club.
Services in Colorado Springs and Delta have taken place. Services in Vista, Calif., are pending.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Ashlock; daughter, Debra Ashlock; siblings, Lyna (David) Dyson, Rex (Sandi) Ashlock, Lola Skelton and stepbrother, Donald Eaton; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathy Ashlock; and brother-in-law, David Skelton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scottish Rite Foundation of Colorado.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
