Lifetime Crawford resident Stanley George died March 28, 2017, at Mantey Heights Rehabilitation and Care Center in Grand Junction. He was 81.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at Crawford Community United Methodist Church with Reverend Tonya Whaley officiating. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Mr. George was born Sept. 29, 1935, to Howard and Dorothy (Bishop) George in Crawford. He spent his childhood in Crawford, where he attended school and graduated from Crawford High School in 1954.
On June 24, 1956, he married Emma Faye Klaseen in Crawford.
Mr. George was a member of the Methodist church, worked at Black Mesa Logging, was a 4-H leader, a YFU youth exchange host and a Farmers Union member.
He enjoyed the outdoors, horses, woodwork and spending time with family. He operated a bed and breakfast for hunters.
Mr. George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Emma Faye George of Grand Junction; one son, Leroy (Mary Jo) George of Fruita; two daughters, Linda (Stan) Miller of Grand Junction and Teresa George of Evans; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Dale "Gabby" George.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
