Longtime Delta resident Stephen R. Jurca died Dec. 18, 2016, at his home. He was 86.
A celebration of life will start at 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 23, at the Jurca residence located at 1405 Pioneer Road in Delta. The family asks that you drop in to celebrate your special memories.
Mr. Jurca was born in Chicago, Ill., Aug. 20, 1930, to John and Susan (Harasnik) Jurca. He spent his childhood in Chicago where he graduated from high school. After graduation, he attended the University of Colorado receiving his bachelor's degree in 1954.
On Sept. 12, 1954, he married Helen Overbay in Denver.
The Jurca family moved to Delta in 1971 where they owned Pioneer Orchards.
Mr. Jurca was a member of the Delta Trap Club and Delta Elks Lodge. He enjoyed trap shooting, hiking, fishing, wine making, and socializing and working out at Bill Heddles Recreation Center.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; three children, Stephen (Sheri) Jurca of Phoenix, Ariz., Susan Wees of Phoenix, Ariz., and Robert (Jill) Jurca of Delta; a sister, Eleanor Ebel of Glenview, Ill.; four grandchildren, Ashley (Darren) Case, Stephen M. Jurca, Sara Jurca and Ana Jurca; and three great-grandchildren, Thomas, Ethan and Audrey Case.
He was preceded in death by one brother, John Jurca.

The seventh annual Eckert Crane Days, the annual viewing of the sandhill cranes migrating north from New Mexico through Colorado's West Slope, will be March 16-18. Representatives from the Black Canyon Chapter of the Audubon Society (BCAS) will be at the viewing site east of Eckert at Fruitgrowers Reservoir, 9 to 11 a.m. each day, to answer questions and provide binoculars and spotting scopes.
