Steve Leitzsey passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, in Grand Junction, Colo.
A celebration of his life will be held in the near future.
He was born April 29, 1960, the son of Hugh Leitzsey and Lucy McCain of Columbia, S.C.
He earned an undergraduate and a Master's degree in art education from the University of South Carolina and was employed as a substitute teacher by the Delta County School District.
He is predeceased by his father, Hugh Leitzsey.
He is survived by his mother, Lucy McCain and her husband Spruce McCain; his sister, Lynn Godman and her husband Steve Long; and his nephews, Wade and Tyler Godman.
Thank you to his girlfriend, Mona Jensen, friends in Delta and his faithful feline companion, Cat, for the friendship and care for Steve.
Memorial contributions in Steve's name may be sent to the Humane Society of Colorado.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
