A total of 430 entries are on display for the annual Western Slope High School Art Show. The show and sale is open at the AppleShed Gallery in Cedaredge through April 26. The gallery is open 9-5 daily.

"Overall, this is a very strong show," said judges Mitchell Gronenthal and Jessica Axtell. "Originality is key in the art field," they advised the student artists. "Always try to find new and unique ways to express yourself and portray your work. Try to use as many hues and shades in your work to make it more interesting.

"Your underlying technique is key to create a successful piece. Foundation skills are necessary to improve as an artist. Always work loosely and tighten up your work as you progress. Simplicity is sometimes beautiful. Be sure to find beauty in confidently placed brush strokes or marks. Searching lines can be a powerful tool to help discover the right placement and also give insight into what the artist is thinking.

"Never stop creating!"
