People in western Colorado who want to hunt this fall but do not have a hunter safety card should sign up for the home study hunter education class, now being offered by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
Students must complete the knowledge-based portion of the class on the Internet at their own pace. They will then complete the skills-based portion of the course with instructors Saturday, March 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Ridgway Community Center. The conclusion class is free and will include firearms safety, hunter responsibility, games and other hands-on learning activities. At that class, students must also complete a written exam and participate in live-fire exercises.
Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1949, and who wishes to hunt in the fall must have a valid hunter education card prior to purchasing a hunting license.
Those wishing to take the class are urged to sign up as soon as possible on the CPW web site, www.cpw.state.co.us. The deadline for registering, which includes the conclusion class, is March 14.
