The lives and contributions of Delta seniors who are 90 years young or more were celebrated in a special annual event Wednesday, April 26, at the Delta Senior Center (DSC).
The Super Senior 90s event was attended by 76 persons. Thirty-one seniors over 90 signed up for the luncheon, and almost all of them were present.
Those honored were Marie Anderson, Robert Anderson, Martha Atchley, Marcy Boss, Margie Carroch, Howard Cowan, Kathryn Crabtree, Bob Dwairs, Elsie Dwairs, Vera Farie, Mary Gallegos, Edna Gray, Virginia Harding, Miriam Hartig, Barbara Hedges, Lorena Hudgens, Edna Ives, Jeanette Kalisciak, Angel Lee, Margaret Lewis, Don Lucy, Edna Maki, Ann Marsh, Ann Miller, Doris Myers, Hazel Reaksecker, Norman Shetley, Lorene Stone, Ann Marie Suppes, Eleanor Wagner and LaVona Wilson.
They each received a floral gift from Ruby's Floral and a gift basket filled with snacks, fruit and candy prepared by the DSC.
Prizes were given to winners of contests.
• Martha Atchley won a box of candy for living the longest amount of time in Delta: 84 years.
• Marcy Boss won a floral bouquet from Ruby's Floral for being the oldest person attending: 98 years, five months.
• There were three World War II veterans in attendance and they received warm applause.
A delicious ham lunch and special cake were prepared by the Senior Community Meals staff. Lunch trays were served to all by five members of the Leo Club, the junior organization of the Delta Lions Club. They were Abby Carlson, Shelbi Ledesma, Gauge Lockhart, Lily Lockhart and Emily Nortnik.
The Delta luncheon was organized by Doris Myers, a longtime volunteer and board member of the DSC, with help from other DSC volunteers, and board members. The tables and dining room were decorated, and all honorees received special necklaces at the entrance.
Meal costs for the honorees were paid for by Larry Davidson, a former DSC board president, in a memorial tribute started by his father. Piano music was played by Leslie Wick. Paul Ash served as master of ceremonies.
The Super Senior 90s is an annual celebration set by the Delta County Council on Aging. Other special luncheons were held the same day at the Cedaredge, Hotchkiss and Paonia senior center meal sites.
