Support for the homeless has been overwhelming

By Cheryl Oeltjenbruns

Dear Editor:

As we begin this new year and reflect on the past year, we remain overwhelmed and overjoyed by the way this community has come together to create a warm, safe place for homeless men, women and families at the brand new facility of The Abraham Connection. More than a building, you have created a sanctuary, a place of hope and faith, a home. To all those who have believed in and supported this mission since the get-go; to those who have prayed, donated supplies, given financial assistance, planned and worked at events; to those who have purchased nachos at Deltarado Days and Girl Talk spa day tickets and who have participated in our other fundraisers; to those who have worked tirelessly on late-night shifts and early-morning shifts, prepared meals, washed laundry, scrubbed bathrooms; to those who have provided a friendly face, a listening ear, counsel, friendship and support to our guests: thank you. Thank you for every act of generosity you have given to the mission, to this organization, and to our guests over the years. Thank you for opening your hearts in very big ways to help those in need.

We continue to offer nightly shelter at our new facility at 480 Silver Street. Our doors are open to those who need us, and our doors are open to those who wish to serve, in any capacity. We remain overwhelmed at your generous offers to help the many who need a hand up. We have trainings scheduled for Jan. 20 and Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m., at Westminster Hall. We can be reached at 970-773-8290 for more information, or to learn about additional volunteer/training opportunities. To send a tax-deductible donation, mail to P.O. Box 910, Delta.
