Lee Marts VFW Post 3571 and its Auxiliary in Delta encourage all members of the community to help our local veterans. The post and auxiliary currently have two community-based projects going into the holidays.
In cooperation with the Colorado Aviation Business Association (CABA) holiday airlift and the local Dollar Tree, the Veterans of Foreign Wars are collecting and distributing non-perishable foods and toys for local veterans and their families who need a helping hand or are homeless this Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In cooperation with the Delta Library, VFW is collecting sample and travel-size toiletries, snacks, books, hard candy, individually packaged hot or cold drink mixes and other items under Operation Troop Bounty. These goods will be packaged and sent to active-duty military personnel who are serving at duty locations around the world.
Contact auxiliary president Jennifer Wright at 640-7720 or post quartermaster Jim Baker at 874-8172 for more information about both projects.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
