The real side of Trump

Dear Editor:

Earlier this year we put a political sign up in front of our house in Crawford, voicing our concerns re: Donald Trump and his attacks on the First Amendment. This obviously didn't sit well with some of his supporters in this area. Our sign was recently vandalized by someone(s) spray painting it with " TRUMP USA." I would like to thank those responsible for this -- nothing reinforces my position that Donald Trump and those who support his "politics" will stop at nothing to get him elected even if it means an end to the Bill of Rights. He, and in this case, his base supporters, are a prime example of how far American politics have fallen.

The ones who defaced our sign also defaced their own First Amendment rights. In case those responsible for this act get their interpretation of the Bill of Rights from FOX News, I'd like to quote what the Founding Fathers of this country wrote as the First Amendment for us all:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press: or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

I see signs I don't agree with all the time -- Confederate flags flying from the back of pickups, despicable racial caricatures of our president on Highway 50 in Delta. That is their First Amendment right. I don't see any spray paint on them. Whenever anyone's First Amendment right is violated, everyone else's is too.

For the $10 or so worth of paint used to deface my sign, they could have bought their own sign saying "Trump USA". My guess is they're probably not even registered to vote.

Anyone with any information regarding this act against US ALL, please call Delta County Crimestoppers at 874-8810. There is a reward.

As we enter into what is going to be the most expensive and divisive campaign year ever, I hope that we can all find a bit more respect for each other. If you disagree with someone, exercise your First Amendment right, care enough to put your own sign up, leave others alone, and most importantly, VOTE!
