Webster's Dictionary defines the word delusion as a "false conception, especially one persistent and opposed to reason." It saddens me to realize how many of my neighbors in Crawford are starting to exhibit behaviors that fit this description. In reality, I had been trying to get this town's children out of traffic and off of the highway when they walk to and from the bus stop twice a day (DCI, July 13, 2016). Apparently, this has been perceived as bullying, to the detriment of the community. Because we have drive-thru liquor stores, these people apparently think that schoolchildren should be fair game for drunk drivers. Hit the cow, pay for the cow ... hit the kid, have another drink? Not in my world. Period.
In reality, I have been leaving town council meetings early since August, because I don't care what Wanda Gofforth says. No way to lower the volume or change the channel, so I leave early. Now the delusion says that I have been or am being escorted from the meetings by a sheriff's deputy. Only in their world.
In reality, Wanda Gofforth could not cite a single instance when a sheriff's deputy had attended a Crawford Town Council meeting to protect the council from Carl Page. Those deputies are always sent to council meetings because of me. I am still not sure how that is Carl's fault, or how that justifies our council suing Carl ... they love Crawford? The legal bills for this fiasco have now exceeded $7,000 of our tax dollars. Stating that fact does not make me a bully; it shows that I am a reasonable, informed voter.
In reality, the town's lawyers, Brown and Camp, are still unable to cite a single valid legal reason that our mayor should have engaged in this behavior against one of our own voters, with our tax dollars. Stating this fact does not make me a bully; it shows that I am a reasonable, informed voter. In reality, this all started because our town clerk refused to provide contact information for individual council members to a citizen, which is actually an important part of her job description. This is such an important requirement that council members are now telling the public to call them directly at home. Stating that fact does not make me a bully; it shows that I am a reasonable, informed voter.
Mayor Wanda Gofforth is asking voters to believe that because she has not been voting on the budget, she cannot be held responsible for the thousands of dollars in legal fees this fiasco has cost our town. In reality, none of this would have happened were it not for the horrendous choices made by Wanda this summer and since.
I support the recall of Wanda Gofforth because I choose to not live in a delusion. I choose marijuana instead of alcohol because I am smart enough to not take the toxic drug that can kill me. Apparently, concerns should be addressed not to me, but the editor of this publication.
