If you call Hotchkiss home, you have just days left to make your voice heard and help guide future growth and development for your community for the next 10 years. Members of the Hotchkiss Planning Commission and Hotchkiss Town Council are asking residents one last time to be active participants in the community by filling out a short survey, the information from which will be used to draft the town's master plan update.
Everyone in the greater Hotchkiss community -- not just town proper -- are invited to fill out one of the eight-page surveys. The survey seeks residents' opinions on business and residential development, infrastructure, public safety and economic development. The existing master plan was drafted in 2006 and was last updated in 2012.
Mayor Wendell Koontz said the goal is to have the master plan updated by the first quarter of 2018. The council is giving residents until Friday, July 21, to return the surveys to the town hall or to fill it out electronically through the town's website, www.TownOfHotchkiss.com.
Trustee Tom Wills, who also serves on the planning commission, said the surveys are coming in slowly. In town only 30 or so folks have completed surveys. Online, there have been about 55 surveys completed, which is a mix of in-town and out-of-town residents.
Preliminary data will be shared during the regular planning commission meeting on Wednesday, July 26, at 6:30 p.m., at the Hotchkiss Town Hall.
