Rita Ann "Tish" Benson died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at HopeWest Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction. She was 82.
A memorial service will be held next spring.
Mrs. Benson was born in Gillette, Wyo., Jan. 23, 1934, to Wesley and Veda (French) Thomas. She spent her childhood in Naturita and attended Nucla High School.
She was a secretary for Peabody Coal Mine and earlier worked as a checker for the Nucla Merc. She served on the West End School Board and volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a member of Eastern Star and held the position of worthy matron. She enjoyed playing cards and cooking. She cooked for the Rudy Steele hunting camp to pay for trips to Mexico in the winter.
She is survived by four sons, Bill Kyle, John Kyle, Tom Kyle and Brock Benson; three daughters, Vianne Westbrook, Kate Alexander and Liz Savage; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Bob Benson; and five sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to HopeWest Hospice.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
