Delta resident R.V. "Tommy" Thompson died Aug. 26, 2015, at the Grand Junction VA Medical Center. He was 83.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 31, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Interment followed at Mesa View Cemetery in Delta.
Mr. Thompson was born in Cortez Aug. 31, 1931, to Earl and Elnora Thompson.
On Dec. 31, 1954, he married Juanita Baldwin in Aztec, N.M. They lived in Cortez, Phoenix, Ariz., and Montrose before moving to Delta 25 years ago.
Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He worked for Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Association for 24 years.
The Thompsons were foster parents for over 200 children. Mr. Thompson enjoyed his family, church, rodeos and his ranch in Shavano Valley.
He is survived by his sons, Frank "Luke" Gerstner of Delta and Robert Thompson of Salt Lake City, Utah; his daughters, Chandra Thompson of Delta and Diana Thompson of Montrose; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Juanita, in July 2013.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
