In her report to council, Town Clerk Cally Gallegos reported that customers may now pay their town utility bills by credit or debit card. "We will now accept payments on-line, or over the counter or over the phone," said Gallegos.
Citizens should be aware that while the service doesn't cost the town, the state will charge them with a fee based on a percentage of the payment.
"It's not the best news for the citizens of the town," said Gallegos. "But sometimes people get in a bind and they need to pay it with a credit card."
For those whose bills come due, the service can prevent them from having their water shut off and paying a $50 fee.
