The Town of Paonia is currently seeking citizens interested in serving on town committees.
The Town Planning Commission currently has one vacancy. The town is also undergoing a restructuring of the commission, said town manager Jane Berry. Currently, the five-member commission consists of the town mayor, one member of the board of trustees appointed by the mayor and three citizens. In the next two to three months the town plans to change the structure to a seven-member, all-citizen planning commission.
The town plans to create a zoning board of adjustments, which considers requests to town code and zoning ordinances and makes recommendations to the board of trustees. A few years ago the duties of the five-member body were handed over to the board of trustees, said Berry. There are currently four openings on that committee.
The town is also considering creating new committees and boards in the near future, including a tree board, recreation committee, business improvement and beautification planning commission.
The town is also actively seeking citizens willing to help with special projects and to share special skills and talents.
All that is needed is a desire to serve in some capacity, said Berry.
Interested town residents can submit an application, available at Town Hall or at townofpaonia.com, or write a letter of interest to the mayor and the board of trustees.
