At its Monday, Jan. 23 business meeting, the Board of County Commissioners approved the appointments of Mariah Wood and Josh Roeling to seats on the Delta County Fair Board. Their terms of service will run until Jan. 31, 2020.
Wood will represent district #2 and Roeling will serve as a member-at-large.
In other business, the commissioners approved a contract for an architect's drawing of an updated courthouse lobby configuration that will address security concerns for the third floor courts area. The work is funded with a $14,500 grant, commissioners were told.
A donation of $1,000 was approved for the fifth annual Soil Health Conference. Commissioner Mark Roeber noted that agriculture is the county's number one economic sector.
The commissioners dealt with four planning related manners. Commissioners approved a final plat for the Quintana/Hellman subdivision, owners Elizabeth Quintana and Timothy Hellman; commissioners conditionally approved sketch plans for the Red Fox subdivision, Alfred and Beth Toplis owners, and for the Scenic Mesa Ranch Resource Preservation subdivision, owner/applicant Julie Littlefield's Descendants' Trust, Pamela L. Turnbull, trustee; and, commissioners vacated a road maintenance agreement requirement for the Gaudarrama subdivision, owner John Gaudarrama, due to the fact that other neighbors on Rhapsody Road declined to sign the road maintenance accord.
Hotchkiss businessman Rex Stucker told the commissioners about a problem with re-financing a property that has been in his family for 102 years. His parcel has two mobile home rentals which have only recently begun to appear on the improved county online mapping system. He said he has been turned down seven different times by five banks while trying to re-finance the property. His only option is to subdivide the parcel at a cost of $3,000 in process costs. His report to the BoCC was a "heads up" to the commissioners because, he said, "I know I'm not the only one having this problem."
