Uleta Hopkins

Uleta Fisk Hopkins of Olathe died Feb. 22, 2016, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe. She was 79.

She was born in Sand Springs, Okla., Sept. 14, 1936, to N. Marion and Sylvia (Duggar) Fisk. When she was 10, the family moved to Olathe. She graduated from Olathe High School as valedictorian of the class of 1954.

She married Leon Hopkins Dec. 31, 1955, in Fort Collins.

Mrs. Hopkins attended Colorado State University and Wisconsin University before finishing at Texas Tech University. She worked for many years as a newspaper composition supervisor in Rockville, Md., and as a medical records transcriber in Norwood before her retirement.

She moved to Delta in 2012 where she made her home until she became a resident of Colorow Care Center. Previously she lived in Norwood for 12 years and near Montrose for 18 years.

She was a member of the Church of God. She enjoyed her family, classical music and traveling.

Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her daughters, Michelle (Gary) Smith of Delta, Ariane Hopkins (Tony Rose) of Little Rock, Ark., and Shana Hopkins (Paul) Thompson of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Christopher (Hannah) Smith of Silverdale, Wash., Gregory Smith of Farmington, N.M., Kathleen Smith and Jonathan Smith, both of Delta.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Leon Hopkins on July 24, 2010; a son, Glen Hopkins; and a grandchild, Klaus Hopkins Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 21, at First Baptist Church with Pastor James Conley officiating. A reception lunch will follow.
