United Country Real Estate is not only one of the largest land brokerages internationally, but it is also one of the largest real estate and personal property auction companies in the world, with over $1 billion in auction sales in 2016. United Country has 431 offices nationwide, with 329 auctioneers working out of 177 auction-centric offices.

At United Country's recent annual convention in San Antonio, the company bestowed its second annual marketing awards to the auctioneers who exhibited exceptional marketing skills. Over 180 entries were received for eight awards, including print marketing materials, video, and web specialty marketing. Gary Hubbell's United Country Colorado Brokers (UCCB) office in Hotchkiss was chosen as the runner-up winner of United Country's 2016 auction marketing competition in the farm and ranch property auction category for the company's Blue Mountain Ranch auction brochure, as well as the runner-up of the auction property video category for UCCB's Famous Trophy Elk Hunting Ranch and Plute bull elk auction video.

"We basically combined two auctions into one marketing piece," explains Hubbell, "because they both had to do with trophy elk hunting. One auction was for a 1,300-acre mountain grazing parcel near Dinosaur National Monument with world-class elk hunting on it. The second auction was a personal property auction of the former world record American elk trophy taken in 1899 near Crested Butte by John Plute. So we targeted a hunting audience of high-net-worth individuals and recreation enthusiasts with our marketing programs."

Both auctions were very successful, Hubbell notes. "Our market research showed that property in the vicinity of the Blue Mountain Ranch was selling for about $500 an acre. We had nine registered bidders with proven financial capability. Our final sales price was $638 an acre, or 27 percent higher than the average land sale in the area. The Plute bull elk trophy sold online for a total of $121,000 -- which is not bad for a set of elk antlers!"

"One of the most important aspects of this campaign was our video," Hubbell explains. "My son, Jake Hubbell, is a talented drone pilot, and the video just looks fantastic. It's really inspiring." Available online at https://youtu.be/rfnUNhLcs0E, the video garnered over 3,200 views by the time the auction concluded. "It's a great way to see the property, with its magnificent views of Dinosaur National Monument," Hubbell says, "and it really helped sell the property. We love taking on challenges like these. We're ready for the next one!"
