The Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Association has started to divert water from the Uncompahgre River into the Montrose-Delta Canal. The association began diverting water in the Ironstone Canal on March 25, and from the Gunnison River through the Gunnison Tunnel on March 28. During the week of March 28, UVWUA plans to start water in the West Canal, Selig, East and Loutzenhizer canals. The Garnet Canal will start the first full week of April.
Water users should contact the association's ditch riders to start and stop water deliveries. The ditch riders will start taking delivery requests between 6 and 7 a.m. the morning of April 1. The ditch riders are instructed not to deliver water until water user bills are brought current.
The past month, crews have worked longer days and Saturdays to make sure the association can deliver water on a timely basis. One problem the association faces is access along rights-of-way. Water users can help by keeping the right-of-way clear of obstacles.
For more information, call the UVWUA office at 249-3813.
At their March 5 meeting Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes made two appointments to the county planning commission. Steve Shea was reappointed for a three-year term.
