Valda Mlakar of Somerset died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, in Denver. She was 72.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia. James Gall will officiate.

Valda Ann Neal was born in Umatilla County, Ore., Dec. 8, 1942, to Walter and Alma (Williams) Neal. She spent her childhood and attended school in Paonia.
On May 26, 1965, she married Harold Mlakar in Las Vegas, Nev.
Mrs. Mlakar enjoyed crocheting, tying flies, breeding Yorkies and Boston Terriers, watching old movies and caring for her disabled son, Opie.
She is survived by three sons, John Mlakar, Harold Mlakar Jr. and Joseph "Opie" Mlakar, all of Somerset; one daughter, Valerie (Steve) O'Connell of Hotchkiss; four grandchildren, John (Jasmine) Mlakar Jr. of Grand Junction, Sherry Mlakar of Stevensville, Texas, Christina O'Connell of Silt and Casey (Betsey) O'Connell of Crawford; and one great-grandchild, Jame-son Mlakar.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Harold on June 1, 2014; one brother, Larry; and one sister, Daisy.
