Velma Warren of Anchorage, Alaska, died at Providence Horizon House on Nov. 21, 2016. She was 85.
She was born in Crawford Aug. 21, 1931, to Mamie and Grant Ferrier. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1949.
In 1951 she married John Todd Jr. and they had four children. Military life took them to different posts around the United States and Europe before the last transfer to Alaska in 1967. After they divorced, Velma was married to Joe Warren from 1975 to 1981. She then met Pius Schaffner and they polkaed, waltzed, fished and built a cabin until he died in 2011.
Mrs. Warren enjoyed sewing, gardening, traveling, fishing, hiking, camping, hunting, cooking and outings with her coworkers.
She worked for the Anchorage School District from 1972 until her retirement in 1996.
She is survived by her brother, Dellis Ferrier of Colorado; her sister, Wilma Jackson of Colorado; four children, Edward Todd of Palmer, Alaska, Gary (Sue) Todd of Kasilof, Alaska; Jane Todd and Wayne Todd (Carrie Wang), all of Anchorage; eight grandchildren; and extended family.
A celebration of life was held Dec. 4. Her remains will be scattered around her favorite places in Colorado and in Alaska.
