Verlin Floyd Rockey died March 21, 2017, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. He was 72.
A celebration of life was held March 26 at Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church. Pastor Dennis Scroggins officiated.
Mr. Rockey was born April 21, 1944, in Monte Vista to Floyd and Vera (Montgomery) Rockey. He spent his childhood in Center and graduated from Center High School in 1962. He attended the University of Colorado where he earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering physics in 1967.
On June 27, 1965, he married Diane DeLozier in Thomas, Okla.
Mr. Rockey was a member of the Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church as well as Campus Crusade for Christ. He also enjoyed all sports and earned all-state honors in football.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Diane Rockey of Austin; son, Craig (Dawna) Rockey of Austin; daughter, Petrina (Robert) Steward of Meridian, Idaho; one sister, Loraine Campbell of Newburg, Ore.; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Rockey.

At their March 5 meeting Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes made two appointments to the county planning commission. Steve Shea was reappointed for a three-year term.
