Recently, members of Lee Marts Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post 3571 and its Auxiliary, assisted members of the Delta Police Department with voluntary kindergartner fingerprinting at Lincoln and Garnet Mesa Elementary Schools. The children are fingerprinted by the police officers, and helped to clean up by the VFW and Auxiliary members. The fingerprint identifications are given to the children's parents for safeguarding. Although hopefully never needed, these fingerprints could become invaluable to identification and recovery of a child under a variety of circumstances.
Thanks to an annual cooperative effort with the Delta School District, Delta Police Department, and local VFW and auxiliary members, many parents will have the opportunity to have possession of their children's fingerprints -- hopefully to become only one of many treasured memories of childhood, but also providing them a comforting and potentially valuable tool.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
