Virginia Ellen Gay died Nov. 14, 2016, at Horizons Health Care. She was 95.
She was born in Danbury, Neb., Sept. 9, 1921, to Edgar and Wilna (Green) Page. The family moved several times during her childhood. She graduated from Leadville High School in 1936.
On March 1, 1941, she married Walter Gay in Glenwood Springs. They lived in Leadville and Salida before a two-year period in Alaska and Washington. They returned to Colorado in 1954. After 26 years in Colorado Springs, they retired to Cedaredge in 1980.
Mrs. Gay enjoyed camping and hunting in the Colorado mountains, sewing, crafts, music and Mah Jongg. She was an avid reader who especially enjoyed Bible studies. She was a leader/administrator with Bible Study Fellowship and served as deaconess in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son, David (Mimi) Gay; a daughter, Donna (Keith) McGuire; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gay; a daughter, LeEllen Johnson; a granddaughter, Lynn McGuire Glessner; and sisters, Mary Carol Harringon and Kay Ricker.
A private family service is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Cedaredge, HopeWest or the charity of the donor's choice.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
