Vision Charter Academy (VCA) is a public charter school in Delta County School District. VCA promotes learners having a voice and a choice to achieve using their individual learning plans. Many schools recognize students of the month. At VCA, learners are recognized for how they use their personal voice, make good choices, and pursue achievement as they become leaders of their learning.
VOICE Learner of the Month: Tyler Marsh is a seventh grader at VCA, and the son of Wayne and Kathy Marsh. Tyler has used his voice to share and pursue his personal interests. Tyler said he wanted to improve, and he worked hard this year to accomplish forward momentum with his academics in a short amount of time. He has achieved the Civil Air Patrol, Cadet Airman First Class rank promotion. His interests include the outdoors, camping, motorcycles and computer games. Tyler is interested in pursuing mechanics and farming for a career. Tyler shared, "Academic weakness is truly a hidden strength! It just depends on the attitude, so choose a good one and persevere through it, so at the end of a struggle you truly have a sense of hope." Tyler has persevered through some academic struggles, used his voice to express and pursue his interests, and is developing and achieving due to his ability to take ownership of his learning and goals.
CHOICE Learner of the Month: Ellison Black is a seventh grader at VCA, and her parents are Jodi and Sam Black. Ellison makes many choices that help her excel personally and academically. She participates in soccer, volleyball, basketball, skiing, horse shows and gymkhanas. Ellison also plays the fiddle and sings in her family band. 4-H is a huge part of her life, and she shows sheep, goats and horses at the Delta County Fair. Ellison has made many choices to pursue excellence. She won the Pro-Second Amendment Middle School Essay Contest in Grand Junction, the school district's sixth grade spelling bee last year; and both the Citizenship and Outstanding Junior 4-H awards. Ellison is enrolled at VCA, but she also chooses to take crossover classes at Cedaredge Middle School where she has been recognized as Student of the Month. Ellison will most likely pursue a career as an equine veterinarian; however, she also thinks being an attorney would be interesting. Ellison is one of VCA's gifted and talented learners who excels at all she undertakes. Ellison thanks all the great teachers, coaches, 4-H leaders, fair board members and her family for all the help and guidance that they have given her over the years. She is grateful for all the wonderful choices VCA and our communities offer her.
