Vivian Cheney honored as parade grand marshal | Paonia, Cherry Days

Photo submitted Longtime school teacher Vivian Cheney is the grand marshal of the 2017 Cherry Days Parade, which begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 4. Vivian taught school in Paonia for 21 years.

A beloved teacher of 50 years will be honored as grand marshal of the 71st Cherry Day Parade.

A nonagenarian, Vivian Cheney taught music in public schools from 1947-1997, the last 21 years of which was at Paonia Middle School, where she also taught social studies, reading and English.

Vivian may have retired, but she remains active in the community. She currently works at the Paonia Senior Center and is a member of the Paonia United Methodist Church where she is the organist and a volunteer at the United Methodist Women's Thrift Store. She has also directed the Methodist church choir and been a member of the bell choir, and is the second violinist for the Valley Symphony Orchestra.

Vivian will be riding in a fully restored Karmann Ghia driven by Lee Bradley.
