Paonia resident Walter Lloyd Wright went home to glory Friday, Sept. 16, 2016, at his residence in Paonia. He was 99 years of age.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, 2 p.m. at Friends Church in Paonia; interment will take place Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colo. His family will have a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, 10 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church in Golden, Colo.
Lloyd was born on June 15, 1917, at Sargent, Colo., to Walter F. Wright and Hazel L. (Lloyd) Wright. He attended school in Sargent and graduated in 1935. After high school he attended University of Colorado medical school where he graduated in June of 1942.
During his time at school Lloyd met Lily Jane Mooney and the two were married Sept. 11, 1940, in Denver, Colo. Lloyd served his country in the United States Army/Air Force during World War II. After the war, he and Lily made their home in Golden. There he had his own medical practice and served the Colorado School of Mines as school physician for 22 years. Lloyd and Lily enjoyed life in Golden and blessed many people. They were married 48 years until her Homegoing in 1988.
Lloyd then married Jodie (Jo Ann Wilhelm) on May 20, 1989. He and Jodie have lived in Paonia for 24 years. There they opened their home to many people. In his retirement, Lloyd enjoyed gardening, traveling and fly fishing. He was a Gideon.
Most of all, Lloyd enjoyed his family and friends. They all were blessed by his profound love of his LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST and how he treasured GOD'S WORD.
Dr. Wright's survivors include his wife of 27 years, JoAnn "Jodie" Wright of Paonia; a son, Herb Wright of Lafayette, Colo.; two stepsons, Chandler Wilhelm (Laura) of Houston, Texas and Quinn Wilhelm (LuAnn) of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Natalie Smith of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Candace Olsen (Roger) of Golden, Colo.; 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lily, his son, Rick Wright, two brothers, Bob and Dick Wright and his sister, Gwyneth.
Family has requested memorial contributions to be made to Hope Unlimited (Children in Brazil), Gideon's International or Samaritan's Purse.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
