Walter Boyd died Sept. 30, 2016, at his home in Cherry Acres Mobile Home Park in Austin. He was 82.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Cedaredge Seventh-day Adventist Church. Inurnment will follow at Cedaredge Cemetery.
Walter Bernard Boyd was born in Cedaredge Oct. 5, 1933, to Walter and Genevieve (States) Boyd Sr.
On May 10, 1952, he married Carol Coleman.
He drove trucks and school buses for Sunshine School and Delta County School District. He worked at the ranch which had been homesteaded by his States ancestors. He also worked in the timber industry in Pendleton, Ore., for about 15 years. He was employed at the Top Coal Mine in Cedaredge, which was formed by his uncle.
Mr. Boyd was a member of the Cedaredge Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol; his four children, William (Gayle) Boyd of Cedaredge, Kay (Keith) Wilkes of Adams, Ore., Cynthia (Ed) Boyd-Kuppenbender of Pendleton, Ore., and Meredith (David) VanLeer of Brookings, Ore.; two sisters, Jeanie Bishop of Chelan, Wash., and Kathlene Ewert of Idaho; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Wells of Austin; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and two grandsons.

At about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to a robbery reported at Arby's, located at 107 Gunnison River Drive. An extensive search of the area was conducted and the suspect was not located.
The suspect was reported to have walked into Arby's and after a brief conversation with an employee, was able to leave the store with a small amount of cash and coins.
