Walter Gay died Dec. 23, 2015, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 97.
He was born in Leadville Feb. 24, 1918, to Harry and Amy (Tuotte) Gay. He grew up in Leadville and graduated from Leadville High School in 1937.
He married Virginia Page March 1, 1941, in Glenwood Springs.
Mr. Gay worked as a mechanic for the Climax mine and as a carpenter in Colorado Springs. He moved to Cedaredge after his retirement in 1980.
He enjoyed his family, gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, black powder and reloading, four wheelers and motorcycles.
He was a member of the NRA, the carpenters and millwrights union and the North American Hunting Club. He attended First Baptist Church in Cedaredge.
Mr. Gay is survived by his wife, Virginia; his son, David (Marian) Gay; a daughter, Donna (Keith) McGuire; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Richard Gay; a daughter, LeEllen Johnson; and a granddaughter, Lynn Glessner.
Memorial services are pending.

At their March 5 meeting Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes made two appointments to the county planning commission. Steve Shea was reappointed for a three-year term.
