I was privileged to attend the Nov. 7 election vote count as a watcher at the Delta County elections office. Having been a voter for 44 years, I really didn't have a clue as to how the counting process was carried out. Given the recent questions of voter fraud, hacking and tampering, I thought I'd see for myself.
Renee, Melinda and the election judges gave me quite the lesson in Elections 101. I had no idea that each signature was checked by a bipartisan team and that a ballot which had a questionable mark on it could be validated by consensus with another panel of bipartisan election judges. Watching the security protocol, the signature checks, scans and professionalism of the entire elections team assures me that elections in Delta County are basically foolproof and void of tampering.
I would like to thank county clerk Teri Stephenson, Renee, Melinda, Amanda and Naomi of the Delta County elections office, and the election judges for the outstanding job they do making sure each voter's vote counts!
