The Delta County Health Department has collected two samples of mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus. The mosquitoes were trapped around the City of Delta by the Delta County Mosquito Control District #1 during the weeks of Aug. 8 and 15.

The end of the summer is near, but mosquito season lasts through September. There is a possibility of getting West Nile Virus while the mosquitoes remain active.

The public is encouraged to take preventative measures against the virus. Drain standing water on property; avoid being outdoors when mosquito activity is high; use a bug repellent with DEET; and dress in long sleeves and pants during dusk and dawn and in areas where mosquitoes are active.
