What does 'opting out' mean?

At Delta County Memorial Hospital we will be "opting out" of Colorado's End-of-Life Options Act (Proposition 106) but what does that mean?
Let us explain what that will mean to our community:
DCMH will not provide medical aid-in-dying medications.
We feel it will be more appropriate for patients to do this in the privacy of a location of their choice, outside of the hospital.
DCMH will assist a patient in transfer to another participating hospital or physician, if necessary.
We will continue to provide all other end of life/palliative care measures and respect a do not resuscitate request and or physician order.
As always DCMH will continue to provide support to our patients, their families and our providers when facing a terminal illness. We will continue to offer an environment of professionalism and dignity to all of our patients.
