To all voting citizens of Delta County Colorado: At this year's November elections you will be voting for two school board members. The two positions on which to be voted are in Cedaredge and Delta. In Cedaredge, Pete Blair, the current president of the Delta County School Board, will be up for re-election. If anyone would like to challenge him, please read below.
And in Delta, the position currently held by Kathy Svenson will be voted on; she will not be running again. So if you live in Delta Precinct 5, 6, 7 or 8, you are eligible to succeed her. Who will step forward to serve the county and the future that resides in the next leaders of our country?
Qualifications (beyond where you reside) include: must be a 12-month registered voter and have no convictions of sex offenses to children.
The school board has the final say on school curriculum and what teaching resources and methods are used. Job description for this four-year position include reading, listening and sharing. In preparation for 12 meetings and 12 work sessions a year you will read for possible revamping of current policies and read to review each month's expenses, etc. It helps to know accounting. Twice a year you will evaluate the work of the school superintendent as she/he administers the daily work.
Who will step forward to share your ideas and expertise? Our forefathers worked and fought to give us these freedoms that every other country has followed, now it's your turn to do a small part to ensure teaching to maintain our freedoms. Obtain a school board petition at the Delta County Courthouse Aug. 5. The petition requires 50 signatures of registered voters; then they must be returned to the county clerk on or before Aug. 28.
