Bill Heddles Recreation Center is hosting a women's self-defense class beginning Jan. 23. This is a six-week session to be held Thursday afternoons from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The class is designed to educate those 13 and up in situational awareness and protecting themselves through self-defense techniques. The cost is $40. Sensei Rodney Grantham, a sixth-degree black belt - Okinawa Seidokan, is the instructor.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
