Filing down the aisle of the Delta Performing Arts Center, each graduate of the Vision Charter Academy wore an enormous smile. The 15 graduates had an overwhelming number of friends and family in the audience.
After reaching their seats, Willyn Webb, executive director of Vision Charter Academy, began the graduates' slideshow. The audience was not afraid to let its graduates know how supported they were, by clapping and cheering during each graduate's shining moment on screen.
"This year, the theme of Vision Charter Academy, was 'Onward and Upward.' Nowhere does that apply more than tonight. These young ladies and gentlemen have prepared for the last 12 and 13 years of their lives; now is the chance where they are going to be going onward and upward," Webb said.
As is the tradition, each graduating student invited someone to speak on his or her behalf.
Many of the representatives -- whether teacher, friend or family -- spoke of the individual struggles their graduate had to overcome to be part of the graduating class of 2019. All of the representatives were incredibly proud of all that their graduates had accomplished.
A flower was given to each student by their speaker. The students then gave their flower to someone in the audience whom they wanted to honor and say thank you to for helping them get to this place.
While the students walked down into the crowd, graduate Kalli Chapman, a National Honor Society member, scholarship recipient, and honors graduate, sang "I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton.
Graduates returned to their seats and Webb stepped to the podium. Then, she called each student's name so that they could step up and receive their diploma.
The graduating students were: Kyrie Barnes, Derek Bate, Jennifer Carrasco, Kalli Chapman, Rebecca Gregory, Alexis Griffin, Alexandra Morton, Evelyn Nelson, Dystanee Perez, Hali Phillips, Kayla Rood, Jakub Stack, Allison Sullivan, Ethan Suppes and Kaytlynn Winston.
