The coming election in November will have a tremendous effect on the quality of life and the environment in the North Fork Valley. We are faced with choosing a state senator in district 5, one of whom is all about money and development at the cost of our environment and way of life in western Colorado. The other person, Kerry Donovan, the incumbent, is fighting for clean air and water, protecting our public lands, strengthening our economy by fighting to reduce healthcare costs and expand high speed internet access. She wants to see renewable energy and is concerned about water conservation in our drought stricken land. Kerry has and will continue to support all the people in her district. She will fight for the rights of all residents of this valley as far as the encroachment of industrial businesses like the large egg producing facilities that have infiltrated our neighborhoods and communities with their pollution and resulting property devaluation.
Her opponent, who has very little background in politics and appears to support only the conservative segment of our population, has shown in his tenure as a county commissioner that he has a limited understanding of the impacts caused by fracking on our water resources and resulting damage to the environment. Apparently this individual was opposed to the development of high speed internet. And it appears that he favors oil, gas and coal over the development of renewable energy.
Here is how Kerry Donavan's opponent raises money for his television and internet ads: Colorado Economic Leadership institute (oil and gas), Americans for Prosperity (Koch brothers), Senate Majority Fund (a conservative campaign group). He has only raised 14k and yet people are being bombarded by his mail. That's oil and gas and the Koch brothers hard at work for him. Those entities pretty much sum up who he is beholden to.
In conclusion it seems that the rational choice in this election is obvious, and that is supporting Kerry Donovan who works for all the people and for our environment and quality of life.
