Alfonso "Al" Estrada died Nov. 21, 2016, at his home in Hotchkiss. He was 79.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the American Legion in Paonia with Reverend James Gall officiating.
Mr. Estrada was born in Walnut, Calif., April 9, 1937, to Manuel and Mary (Lohr) Estrada. He graduated from Puente Union High School in 1956 and then joined the Navy. He retired as a jet engine mechanic for General Electric in 1999. He held many offices, including president of his union, UE 2020.
On May 4, 1974, he married Joyce Wedge.
He and his wife moved from Chino Hills, Calif., to Hotchkiss in 2001. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Clampers. He was also a member of the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge and the Wilson Head American Legion Post of Paonia.
He is survived by his children, Kymberly (Roy) Ganzer of Long Beach, Calif., Allen (Dawn) Estrada of Mesa, Ariz., Melissa (Jeremy Brodie) Estrada of Hotchkiss; one sister, Frances "ChaCha" Aguilera of Pomona; one sister-in-law, Sharon Huscher of Apple Valley, Calif.; numerous grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; son, Kenny; and stepson, David McNutt.
