Lifetime Delta resident Amos Leon died Dec. 29, 2017, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. He was 80.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Delta Elks Lodge. There will be a celebration of life service with dinner and beverages for all following the memorial service.
Mr. Leon was born Oct. 14, 1937, in Delta to Francisco and Mauricia (Caustrita) Leon. He spent his childhood and attended school in Delta, graduating from Delta High School in 1956.
On Sept. 9, 1957, he married Beatrice Gallegos in Delta. She preceded him in death on July 31, 1997.
On April 9, 2011, he married Virginia Urbish in Delta.
Mr. Leon was a mink rancher by trade and worked for Delta County School District. He was a member of Delta Elks Lodge #1235, and enjoyed tinkering in his shop, four-wheeling, gardening, flying, and spending time with family and friends. He was on several community boards and was active in youth athletic activities.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Urbish-Leon of Delta; four children, Tim (Melinda) Leon of Grand Junction, Tammy (Rod) Fraser of Delta, Teri (Mark) Stephenson of Eckert, and Scott (Susie) Leon of Paonia; sister, Lydia (Landy) McBride of Downers Grove, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice; eight brothers; and three sisters.

During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
