The Apple Blossom Bike Tour got rolling last Saturday morning with the help of lots of volunteers and a host of corporate sponsors. Volunteers helped register, direct, and cheer participants. The annual Mother's Day weekend cycling event is a fundraiser for Cedaredge BSA Scout Troop 482. This was the event's fifth year.
Three dozen riders signed up to pedal one of three routes which began and ended at town park after looping through Cedaredge's hills and valleys. Routes included a 12-mile Applesauce course; a 25-mile Apple Core route; and a 50-mile Hard Cider run.
All riders received colorful commemorative jerseys and those completing the Applesauce run were also treated to ice cream courtesy of the Aspen Trails Campground. Each participant completing a longer course received a $10 "Blossom Buck" certificate redeemable for meals at the Cedaredge Creekside Café or RJ's Land & Sea Restaurant.
This year's corporate sponsors included RJ's, The Car Lot, Antelope Trading Company, Love Your Lashes, Double J Disposal, Brown & Camp, Big John's Lumber, VFW Grand Mesa Post 9221, Hellman Motor Company, Yost Family Dentistry, B & T Auto Service and Stitchworks.
On May 1, the Cedaredge board of trustees met for a special meeting to appropriate an additional $35,000 from reserves as a loan to the golf course fund.
These funds will be used to purchased a used turf utility vehicle, a spray rig, and to make improvements to the kitchen and dining area of the restaurant.
