Delta veterans perform POW/MIA ceremony

On Friday, Oct. 19, members of Lee Marts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3571 and Harry A. White American Legion Post 65 performed a prisoner of war/missing in action ceremony and established a POW/MIA table at the Confluence Cafe at 440 Main Street, Delta.

Heading into his senior year at Delta High School, John Ames set a goal: he would get a second opportunity to compete at the state cross country championships. On Friday, Ames made that goal, running to an impressive fourth-place finish at the 3A Region 1 meet at Aspen with a time of 17 minutes, 20.60 seconds.

Bruins dominant in grid tilt

A near-perfect night for football was executed well for the Cedarege Bruins but was not so favorable for host Hotchkiss High School.

The Bulldogs received the opening kickoff and were forced to punt the ball away after just three plays and four yards to their credit.

Olathe's McLaughlin qualifies for state CC

Olathe junior Layton McLaughlin will compete this Saturday at the State Cross Country Championship after finishing 11th at the 3A Region 1 meet in Aspen Saturday.

The top four teams and top 15 individual placers qualify for state competition, McLaughlin competed at state in 2017 as part of the qualifying team.

Paonia cross country teams bound for state

Paonia seniors Ethan Bartlett and Harley Ewert set new personal-best times to finish second and eighth at Friday's 2A Region 4 cross country meet. With Telluride runners placing first and seventh, freshman Alyster Birk's strong finish sealed Paonia's first ever regional team win.

Semi-final loss ends Delta softball season

The 2018 softball season for Delta High School's Panthers will be one not soon to be forgotten. After years of earning respect from around the state, Delta notched several memorable firsts for a program which battled its way to the top of the 3A WSL standings the past few seasons.



Jack and Mary Blair celebrate 65th anniversary

An open house is planned Saturday, Nov. 3, to celebrate the 65th wedding anniversary of John "Jack" and Mary Blair. The celebration will be held at their home at 1740 Mink Street, Delta, from 2 to 4 p.m.

From Delta, Highway 50 meanders toward Grand Junction. It's a winding road with sweeping curves that closely mirror the path of the nearby Gunnison River. The river, which flows west of the roadway, is not visible from the pavement.

Cooking class culminates with beef cook-off

The Black Mesa CattleWomen assisted the quarter one cooking class over the past six weeks. The Hotchkiss K-8 students learned about beef, basic nutrition, safe food preparation and presentation.
