The fireworks that won't go out

Nearly everyone loves fireworks, some pets excepted, which make Independence Day celebrations a special time for lovers of this great nation. Sadly though, those fireworks are quickly gone for another year when we'll begin all over to anticipate the excitement of the flash, rainbow of colors and BOOM that quickly follows.

Six on 3A elite team; Dunbar top net coach

The storybook year for Cedaredge High School's volleyball team continued on following the last whistle of regional and state competition in 2018.

Cedaredge, the second-place team in 3A WSL, landed six athletes on this year's All-Conference Teams and had one player participate in the coveted Colorado Coaches Girls Sports Games this past weekend in Arvada.

Grants celebrate music, honor Al Spika

Music programs in Delta schools got a huge boost last week. Big Machine Records founder Scott Borchetta and his wife, Sandi Spika Borchetta, visited Lincoln Elementary School to present a Music Has Value donation in honor of Sandi's father, Al Spika.

When Spika died in February 2017, those wishing to make memorial contributions were directed to the Music Has Value Foundation, which was started by the Borchettas.

An explosion of color makes for fun run

A total of 88 runners and walkers of all ages came from Crawford, Hotchkiss, Paonia and Delta and as far away as Grand Junction, Clifton and Golden to participate in the first annual Color Run at Crawford. Held Saturday, Nov. 3, the event was sponsored by the North Fork Friends of Montessori and was held under partly sunny skies with clouds and an occasional snowflake mixed in.

Honoring those who make a difference

A quilting guild, a store that links farmers to consumers, and a lifelong resident with a penchant for helping his neighbors and his community were recognized at this year's annual meeting of the Hotchkiss Community Chamber of Commerce. The chamber also elected a new board member and said farewell and thank you to another.
