Fee changes affect walk-ins at state parks
Fee changes affect walk-ins at state parks

As of Jan. 1, individuals walking into Crawford or Sweitzer Lake state parks will be subject to a fee of $4 for a daily pass. The fee will not apply to those entering the park in a motor vehicle with a valid daily pass, annual parks pass or the new hang tag that's being issued by Colorado Parks and Wildlife in 2019.

K-9 unit joins Delta County Sheriff's Office

After over 11 years of service, Montrose County Sergeant Keith Sanders and his K-9 are leaving the Montrose County Sheriff's Office to join the Delta County Sheriff's Office.

According to a press release issued by Montrose County, K-9 Oxx will be adopted by Sgt. Sanders upon his departure.

Jesse Allen McAfee, 35, of Delta was issued a ticket for alleged trespass at Delta Timber, 519 Highway 92.

Paonia trustees okay payment of Brunner legal fees

Former town trustee Bill Brunner will be reimbursed for legal costs related to a 2017 lawsuit filed against him in Delta County Court after being denied a records request under the Colorado Open Records Act.

The decision was made on Dec. 27 at a special meeting of the town board of trustees, called specifically to address the fees.

Paonia approves policies, fees for 'de-annexation'

While owners of qualifying parcels of land have a right under Colorado statute to petition for annexation into municipal boundaries, owners of qualifying property within town limits also have a right to petition for de-annexation, also known as "disconnection."

At the Dec. 11 board meeting, Paonia trustees unanimously adopted a four-page ordinance amending town code by establishing policies and procedures for disconnecting lands from town boundaries.

Bob Castoe dies in snowmobile accident

Bob Castoe, a longtime resident of Cedaredge, died as the result of a snowmobile accident that occurred on Grand Mesa Christmas Day.

The Delta County Sheriff's Office was alerted to a lost snowmobiler at about 7:45 p.m., when Castoe failed to meet a fellow snowmobiler at Alexander Lake Lodge.

John Oates concert sells out -- twice

Local music lovers filled the Bank of Colorado Theatre at the Grand Mesa Arts & Events Center (GMAEC) on Dec. 28 for two sold-out shows featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member John Oates alongside local Americana songwriter David Starr. The high demand of the original Friday evening performance caused the second show, a matinee, to be added after the original announcement.
