As part of the 2019 Delta County Libraries' Summer Reading Program, on June 12 the Black Canyon Astronomical Society held a presentation on black holes at the Cedaredge Library.

BCAS president Bryan Cashion discussed the background and science on black holes, theories on what they look like, and how scientists recently captured an image of a black hole in another galaxy. Cashion also visited the Delta and Hotchkiss libraries and will visit the Paonia Library at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 17. He'll also give a presentation at the Crawford Public Library at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 19.

Throughout summer, kids are invited to participate in various space-themed events and crafts throughout the Delta Library District as part of the Summer Reading Program. In Cedaredge, throughout June kids can make their own moon phase viewer in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

In July kids and teens can design, build, and decorate a miniature space shuttle during normal library hours to take home. Supplies are provided.

More upcoming events can be found on www.deltalibraries.org/events.
