Longtime Delta resident Beatrice Sanchez died Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, in Denver. She was 79.
Rosary was recited Friday, Aug. 21, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Mass of Christian burial was held Saturday, Aug. 22, at St. Michael Catholic Church. Burial followed at Mesa View Cemetery in Delta.
Beatrice Herrera was born in New Mexico March 7, 1936, to John and Balvina (Salazar) Herrera. When she was 10 years old, the family moved to Colorado.
Mrs. Sanchez moved to Las Vegas, Nev., in 1967 and back to Delta in 1975.
She was a cook for Delta County jail for 22 years and volunteered with Head Start in past years.
She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was involved in Our Lady of Guadalupe Society. She enjoyed her family and friends, food, praying, reading her Bible, storytelling, and her dog, Baby.
Mrs. Sanchez is survived by her husband, Mario Sanchez of Delta; her sons, Modesto "Sonny" (Barbara) Ortega, Jr. of Pahrump, Nev., Carl (Victoria) Ortega, Anthony "Tony" Cusick, both of Delta, and George Cusick Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev.; her daughters, Jennie (Doug) Clawson, Dolores "DoDo" (Steve) Boggioni, all of Las Vegas, Nev., Belinda (Roger) Trujillo of Delta and Anna Marie Herrera of Grand Junction; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Filimon Herrera (Angelita Cordova); her sister, Angelina Truelove; and three infant children.
