Robert "Bob" Burritt died Jan. 1, 2018. He was 78.

He was born July 31, 1940, to John and Iona Burritt of Redlands Mesa.

He attended first grade in the Eckert School and all subsequent grades in Hotchkiss, graduating in 1958.

He was employed first by Johnson and Youvan Drilling and later by Longyear Drilling. In 1963, he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation drilling core samples for proposed dam sites across Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Arizona.

On Nov. 21, 1962, he married Melba "Jeannie" Ryan of Delta. They settled in Uravan where Mr. Burritt worked for Union Carbide as a carpenter and heavy equipment operator. In 1984 they moved to Nucla. That year, he planted 2,500 peach trees, and later hundreds of sweet cherry trees, on his farm property on Redlands Mesa. After commuting between Nucla and Redlands Mesa, he and Jeannie built a home on the edge of their Redlands Mesa orchard in 1993.

He enjoyed hunting with his prized mules, fly fishing, trapping and skinning bobcat and coyote.

In 2001, he was diagnosed with the first of many cancers.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannie; son, Ricky (Tina) Burritt of Golconda, Nev.; daughter, Brenda (Spencer) Garner of Fruita; grandchildren, Spencer Garner Jr. of Grand Junction, Wade Garner of Fruita, Bailie (Cody) Weaver of Loma, Pete Steelsmith and Stacy Sullivan, both of Golconda, Nev.; eight great-grandchildren; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Services will be Saturday, Jan. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Mountain View Bible Church in Lazear.
