As part of the Boettcher Scholarship program, finalists are given the opportunity to identify one teacher who impacted their lives and made significant contributions to their growth and education.

Delta High School finalist Caleb Frazier nominated Danielle Lopez for the honor this spring. Lopez is a math and computer science teacher and the coach of the DHS speech and debate team.

The honor consists of a personalized plaque, a special tribute from Caleb and a $500 grant, which is to be used at Mrs. Lopez's direction for an educational project, activity, professional development or piece of equipment she feels will benefit students and Delta High School.

In his nomination letter, Caleb said, "She (Mrs. Lopez) has pushed me to my limits at every turn, whether it be pushing me in algebra, or pushing me to do my best in speech. My best advice is always to take the informative topics she gives out because they are pure gold. They have not let me down yet. She has been through so much in her life, and it is truly a privilege to have her as a teacher, coach, mentor, and friend.

"The words that I will always remember from Mrs. Lopez are: 'Never give up, whether it is the end or the beginning of the race.' This short yet powerful message has stuck with me. She has taught me how to succeed and the first step is to never give up. Thank you so so much, Mrs. Lopez, for always being there for me, always pushing me to my best, and for always keeping me smiling."

"We are incredibly proud to have Mrs. Lopez as a teacher in our school community and thank her for inspiring not only her students but also setting a standard of excellence for others in her profession," said DHS principal Derek Carlson.
