The Bruins of Cedaredge had a strong week with wins over 2A Hotchkiss and 3A Moffat County. A big second inning got Cedaredge off to a lead it would never relinquish in an 11-1 non conference victory. A weekend encounter against Moffat County was another win, 9-2, for the Bruins.

Cedaredge had base-runners in scoring position in the bottom of the first inning but the Bulldogs took advantage of miscues to thwart the offensive edge Cedaredge had. Two runners were tagged out in plays at the plate to keep the game scoreless after one inning of play last Tuesday.

Cedaredge resumed its offensive attack in the second inning and scored eight big runs to chase Hotchkiss starting pitcher Jonathan Gonzalez off the mound after seven runs and just one out. Mario Espinoza took over for Gonzalez and pitched three and two-thirds of an inning giving up five hits and four more runs in the Bruins' 11-1 win over the Bulldogs.

The Bruins, 1-0 and 6-3 in the 3A WSL standings, held Hotchkiss, (3-0 and 8-2 in 2A District 3/5), in check behind the pitching of senior Chris Lindley, who picked up the win after going six innings and allowing just three hits and one run while striking out four Bulldog hitters.

Hotchkiss scored its lone run in the fourth inning on a single from Colton Deluzio. Presley Pene and Gonzalez had the other two Bulldogs' hits.

Gonzalez's loss left him with a 2-1 record for the season while Lindley's win upped his season marks to 2-1 as well.

Cedaredge outhit the Bulldogs 20-3 with Christian Reynolds' four-for-four day producing two RBIs. Brandon O'Hern, Sean Dale and Chase Meyers all had two RBI days for Cedaredge. Tre' Labossiere, Reynolds, O'Hern and Dale all had doubles for the Bruins.

A conversation with Cedaredge head coach Terry Montoya showed his confidence in the Bruins in 2017. "Hotchkiss is a good team and Gonzalez is a good pitcher. I wasn't too surprised in our game. I believe in this team. They play for each other and they know their roles."

Lindley was also positive in a post-game interview. When asked how he felt before the game and what he expected, he also expressed confidence in his teammates. "I didn't feel too good at the start. I felt weak. I started feeling better as I went because I knew the people behind me had my back."

Saturday's home contest against Moffat County was another strong start with the Bruins gaining an early 4-0 lead after three innings.

Moffat County scored single runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings only to have the Bruins score five big runs in the bottom of the sixth to win going away.

Labossiere and Jacob Lewis had doubles and two RBI days to lead the Bruins on offense.

Lewis started on the mound, and got the win, for the Bruins while going four strong innings and giving up just two hits and striking out five batters. Peter Carlson came on in the fifth giving up three hits, two runs and striking out seven Bulldog batters.

Next up for the Bruins is Basalt for a doubleheader in Cedaredge. Games are slated for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. starts. On April 18 the Bruins host Delta in a 4 p.m. contest. Cedaredge travels to Carbondale to face Roaring Fork on April 22 with the first pitch set for 11 a.m.
