The Cedaredge Bruins are 2-2 to start the 2018 baseball campaign. An opening season game in Gypsum was a 10-0 win over 4A Eagle Valley.
Last weekend the Bruins were in Cortez for a three-game series in tournament play. Game one was against host Cortez with Cedaredge scoring a 15-7 win on Friday.
Saturday's schedule had the Bruins facing 5A Montrose. The Indians were too much for Cedaredge and a 17-5 loss was the result. A Saturday afternoon contest against 4A Glenwood Springs was another one-sided loss with the 4A Demons posting a 19-9 decision to leave the Bruins with a 2-2 record.
Game stats for the Cortez game were not available and line scores for the Montrose and Glenwood Springs games were all that were available.
Against Montrose, the Bruins held a brief 1-0 lead until the second inning when the Indians put up eight runs to take an 8-1 lead.
With five more runs in the third frame and another four in the fourth, Montrose surged to a 17-5 win after a four-run inning for the Bruins.
Montrose's Tristan Church was 3-4 with a double and Jared Miller hit a home run to highlight the Indian's day.
Jayden Lopez was the winning pitcher.
Cedaredge's final game of tournament play against Glenwood Springs was tied at 2-2 going to the second inning. The Demons scored six runs to take an 8-3 lead then outscored Cedaredge 7-4 in the third inning for a commanding 15-7 lead heading to the fourth.
The Demons outscored Cedaredge 4-2 over the next two innings to end the game by 10-run rule, 19-9.
Glenwood Springs ended the game with 19 runs on 12 hits and committed just one error. Tyler Boyd was 3-4, scored three times and knocked in two runs for the Demons.
